About STEM 4 ALL

STEM 4 ALL program is the initiative by St. Joseph University In Tanzania to contribute in improving the teaching and learning of physics, chemistry, biology, maths and computer studies in secondary school in Tanzania. The aim is to contribute in building a mid in-come industrialized country by preparing students for future career in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) as stipulated in the Development Vision – 2025.

This initiative is based on the findings from situational and needs analysis study conducted by St. Joseph University In Tanzania in 2021 that identified existence of a gap in the effective teaching and learning of sciences and maths in schools in order to realize country’s ambitions to promote science, technology, engineering and maths for all. Specifically, in terms of availability of science and maths teachers, availability of laboratories for science and computer studies subjects, shortage of technicians and relevant and up-to-date facilities in for science subjects in the schools.

The STEM 4 ALL program uses BSc (Ed) graduate from within the university as teacher trainees for teaching sciences, computer studies and maths in secondary schools in Tanzania as part of their professional development.

It is expected that secondary school students with a sound background in science and maths shall contribute in transforming Tanzania towards a mid in-come industrialized country which requires serious investment in education particularly in science, mathematics and ICT.
